LockeCole's Journal
I just sent off a letter to NIS America to let them know my feelings about them putting a game that I was very interested into a format which I refuse to support. I hate this about the gaming industry, they seem to think that their savior from the evils of game renting and trading games and selling games is to go download only, that way you can never sell or borrow a game ever again. Moreso, I can taste my frustration with the idiots who think this is just peachy and that digital distribution is great because god forbid you get off your ass to go get a game. For fucks sake, it's not even get off your ass and go out anymore, with Amazon et al it's more like get off your ass and answer the door! How fucking lazy and 'instant gratification' are people going to get? Anyway, here is that letter. Dear NIS team, I appreciate your efforts in the past. My wife and I are huge fans of your games. However, as a fan I just wished to voice my disappointment with your announcement of 'Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman" being PSN exclusive. Some of us like to actually OWN our games, not pay a high cost for a digital version which in the future may not be replaceable. Sure, at the moment I could probably redownload the game, but what happens when Sony gets out of gaming, or they decide it's too expensive to run the backend for a game system from 10 years before. Even having a backup of the game will not matter when the DRM service supporting the use of said game is no longer running. I understand that you expect the game will not sell as well as Disgaea, so then print less copies and ALSO offer it via PSN. Make it Limited Edition or sell hard copies exclusively through your website, but DON'T force us gamers into a proprietary DRM scheme which down the line will fail while the NES carts from my childhood continue to work. Remember that the niche game players are also more likely to be game collectors. I will no longer be purchasing a copy of this game and any other download only games in the future regardless of how much I might be looking forward to them. Thank you for reading, Jason Zagar PS: Don't point to the poor sales of the digital version and claim that was why it was a good choice not to release it on UMD. Current mood: RAWR.. Current music: MOTHER3 - Theme of Bad Boy.
